3 Top Tips to Ensure You’re Keeping Your Car in Good Health

August 22, 2018

Cars need maintaining. No surprises there, everyone knows that. It can, however, be tricky to be clear about exactly what you need to do. With so many potential issues that can harm the performance of your vehicle, it’s important to have a list in your head of basic checks to keep on top of.

Here, French & German Car Services Ltd list 3 aspects of your car that are essential for keeping it healthy.

Tyres need maintenance, and can also need replacing to avoid worse issues. It is important to keep your tyres inflated to the recommended PSI (you can find this in your vehicle’s handbook), so we’d advise checking this frequently, and especially after long journeys. Take your car to a petrol station and you’ll be able to use the tyre pump – generally, if you’re not sure how to use these, someone on site will help you out.

Performing regular oil checks is very important. Understand how to do this for your car – again, the owner’s handbook should provide clear instructions about this – and check your oil every other week or so. If it gets below the minimum level, you’ll need to top it up immediately. Ensure that you use the correct oil for your vehicle (this information is easily available online), and that you also check the levels after long journeys.

Don’t let the fuel get too low

“Running on fumes” is never advisable. It’s best to avoid letting your fuel tank slip below a quarter full, as doing so can lead to serious problems; for example, the fuel pump motor can overheat and sediment can find its way into the pump.

As long as you’re keeping on top of these three crucial aspects of car maintenance, you should be able to tie yourself over between professional checks and services. Obviously, though, you still need to have your car taken care of by trained mechanics.
