We’ve all been there. An ominous message appears on the dashboard, accompanied by a sinister beep. You might not know what it means, but that beep is the giveaway; it’s time to get your vehicle looked at. Needing a car repair isn’t necessarily the end of the world, though. Provided you use a good garage, the process should be reasonably stress-free. Sure, you’re going to have to part with some money, but you needn’t be without your car for weeks or overcharged, as long as you do your research.
This is an obvious one, but it’s important nonetheless. Many garages have at least some online presence nowadays, and that’s a great place to start. Check Google reviews, see whether they have social media accounts, and you should be a little closer to knowing how they will treat you. Make sure, however, that you read the reviews. Simply basing your selections on star ratings won’t provide an accurate representation; it could be that reviewers have been unnecessarily harsh, or overly generous. Read about the customers’ car repair experiences, and make your own judgement.
Provided a garage and a garage’s team is experienced, they should be able to tackle most problems. Try and find out how long the garage has been operating, as this will give you an idea of their experience. Car repairs come in a variety of different styles, and an inexperienced garage might not have dealt with all of them. French and German were established in 1990, and have thus had time to build up our experience. Our expert mechanics will take good care of your car when it’s with us, and have the necessary know-how to tackle any problem.
If you know the problem, then ask for a quote. Don’t be put off a garage if they sound initially hesitant; it can sometimes be difficult to know exactly how much a car repair will cost just by hearing about it. You should be able to get a rough estimate of the cost, though, by having a brief conversation with a car mechanic. Once you’ve got an idea of how much the garage will need to charge you, you can compare a number of different places and go for the best offer. Beware overly cheap quotes, though; car repairs can expensive. If a garage offers you a price that is well below anything else you’ve heard, they might not understand the problem fully, or are trying to draw you in.
The shock of a huge pay request is generally easy to avoid. Simply ensure that your garage contacts you before they begin any work. That way, your car repair won’t involve anything you weren’t expecting, and you can always double check costs before agreeing to go ahead. We at French and German are a friendly, communicative business, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the work we do.
By going through these very basic procedures, you should be able to avoid any car repair horror stories.
